Some days are a little more of a challenge photographically speaking. Sometimes the inspiration is slower in coming – or maybe that’s just a sign that I need a cup of chai. ;) Anyways, I wasn’t sure if I was going to find *anything* round to shoot today…. but… Voila! There are some round things out there after all!
Happy Thursday!
Lately I’ve found out that phones can be *happy* things.
And I also like vintage things. So…. I decided to combine the two – why not shoot this self-portrait assignment with a vintage phone?
This is easily one of my hardest-to-pull-off self-portrait ideas ever.
Yes, I felt a little silly practicing my phone expressions – without talking to someone. No, I’m not going to tell you that it took over 150 tries to get what I wanted….
My inspiration behind the shoot are a couple of vintage telephone ads (here and here) that I came across. Using that as a sort of launching pad, I borrowed an unrelated idea from Norman Rockwell and decided to tell a story, in series, with self-portraits. It made for a long, but fun photo experiment.
I think this might as well be called the take-a-picture-of-something-you’ve-photographed-a-hundred-times-but-make-it-look-different-this-time assignment. ;) I kind turned this assignment into a photo study… I liked the warmth of the orange flowers – seemed to fit a hot summer day.
Hope y’all enjoy! :) Happy Thursday!
Bokeh is a photography term for what basically means “pretty, blurred light”. :) I tried a couple of different ideas today: for one I shot “regular” bokeh and for the other two I tried shaped bokeh….. Everything seems a little abstract, but it’s always fun to try something new, right?!
